A third generation Italian American, Pozzo was born in Santa Monica and raised in Los Angeles. He attended California State University Northridge, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree, and California Lutheran, where he obtained an Administrative Credential. Pozzo worked in Los Angeles public schools for over 36 years, first as a History teacher, and later as a secondary school administrator. Pozzo has served as the president of the American Educators of Italian Origin United (AEIOU) for the past 10 years. AEIOU awards Italian language scholarships to students studying Italian in LAUSD schools and opera scholarships to persons pursuing a career in opera. A board member of the IAMLA for over ten years, Pozzo’s family traces their history to early Los Angeles. His grandparent’s wedding was held in the Italian Hall in 1908 and his extended family, the legendary Pozzo Construction Company, is responsible for building the Italian Hall and hundreds of other buildings in early Los Angeles. Doug is married to Flora, a regular IAMLA volunteer. They have two children two grandchildren.
